Living in the Roanoke Valley

Location
The Roanoke Valley is located among the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwestern Virginia. It’s centrally located in the mid-Atlantic region equidistance from New York and Atlanta.  This is just one of the many reasons that the Roanoke Valley is a great place to live and work.

Roanoke boasts a booming economy, a great educational system, state of the art medical facilities, wonderful communities in which to live and work, as well as good weather and warm southern hospitality. It’s no wonder so many people live in the Roanoke Valley

Economy
Roanoke is historically known for being the crossroad of commerce. It is the largest metro area in Western Virginia and continues to be known throughout the region as the center for business.

The region is centered around four major areas of commerce. No doubt from its historical routes Roanoke is still known for its automotive/transportation industry.  Additionally the Colleges and Universities have opened up the area of biotech/biomedical research. Information technology is another component as well as manufacturing.

The economy is healthy thus making Roanoke a great place to work, which is evidenced by the many people who commute nearly 60 miles to be a part of it.

Education
Many people choose to raise their family in Roanoke. In addition to its beauty and charm, the region is host to a strong public and private education system. You’ll find stellar programs pre-school through graduate school.

Roanoke is home to 6 public school systems with magnet schools as well as two international baccalaureate programs.  There are also 19 colleges and Universities in the area some of which are nationally recognized.

You can rest assure that education is a top priority in the Roanoke Valley.  Many of the programs work hand in hand with the economic industries in the area. Living in Roanoke is setting your family up for success.

The View
While the economy, education, and cost of living will drive your decision to live in Roanoke, be sure to take a moment to stand atop Mill Mountain under the Roanoke Star and view the city from above. You’ll be seduced by the rolling hills and mountains that paint the back drop to this area.

There isn’t much that the Roanoke doesn’t offer. No matter what brings you here you’ll fall in love with the mild climate, many recreational activities, and the warm southern community that is Roanoke. You’ll feel safe knowing that crime rates are low, the cost of living is low and the education is award winning.

The question really begs, why shouldn’t you move here?
