The Roanoke Valley has a wealth of things to see and do. From historical sites to hiking the Appalachian Trail, this gorgeous Valley’s array of attractions has something to satisfy any craving for excitement, knowledge, or fun.
 
Arts & Culture
For the arts and cultural enthusiast, the Roanoke Valley has a vast array of choices. Roanoke features its own opera, symphony, and dance groups as well as historic theaters and gorgeous venues. Art museums and galleries are abundant in the valley, providing the art lover with everything from paintings to sculpture.
 
History & Museums
Historical sites in the Roanoke Valley are plentiful. The National D-Day Memorial is located in Bedford Virginia not far outside of downtown Roanoke. It is the first memorial of its kind and is truly a spectacular site.
Roanoke Valley’s museums also include interesting exhibits on trains, African American history, and 19th-and 20th-century art. Other nearby historic sites include the Booker T. Washington Memorial Park and Thomas Jefferson’s resort home, “Poplar Forest.”
 
Parks & Recreation
For those who love to play outdoors, the Roanoke Valley holds an amazing amount of wonderful activities. Golfing, hiking the Appalachian trail, biking, playing on the water at Smith Mountain Lake, going to the zoo, or Roanoke’s Festival in the Park are all things to be enjoyed by the whole family. The Blue Ridge Mountains hold spectacular treasures to be explored as well, including caverns, trails, waterfalls, rivers, and spectacular views from the famous overlooks.
