Feast on the Many Flavors of Hampton Roads |
The melting pot of the Hampton Roads region has produced the most interesting of flavors. Like the people of the region, our dining reflects the influence of many cultures over a long period of time. Delicious meals are all tastefully presented in a wide array of culinary choices - the hard part is deciding which taste to try!
Seafood Fresh Off the Boat
Seafood is in abundance around the world but Hampton Roads has the catch of the day for every seafood lover and serves it up fresh! With the Chesapeake Bay lapping at local shores, the Atlantic Ocean rolling in to the east and the many rivers and tributaries feeding the western and northern reaches, the fresh catch is very, very fresh!
Hampton Roads chefs know where to find the freshest seafood around the world, flying in fresh catches daily. Whether served sushi style, southern style or somewhere in between, you will discover local crab and fish, regional shrimp and scallop, and fresh-off-the-plane ocean-going delights for your seafood cravings.
Steak
Did you say steak was more your style? Well, Hampton Roads has the rare ability to serve it just your way--from grilled to broiled, fried to tartared, beef may be what is for dinner tonight! Casual steakhouses abound and there are both nationally known chains and local connoisseurs serving steakhouse menus on both the Southside and Peninsula.
Pasta Lovers
Ah, pasta! Italian flavor was an early favorite in Hampton Roads’ culinary adventure and both well seasoned and newer entrees into the realm of Italian cuisine have made their mark on the area. And Pizza places abound! From the traditional to “California Style” there are lots of slices ready to bite into. Look for both time-honored and the new wave cuisine choices throughout the region.
Location! Location! Location!
And it’s not just the category of food but the atmosphere adds to the unique Hampton Roads flavors. You will find many establishments offer outdoor dining and many have that water view, too. Romantic sunsets are a memorable meal on anyone’s menu.
On both the Southside and Peninsula look for out-of-the-way places as well as the well-traveled roadways. Many of the area’s older eateries are tucked back in neighborhoods, in older marinas and smaller shopping centers.
From the casual to the elegant, find the restaurant that suits your style. Boardwalk restaurants are usually very casual as are the establishments along Shore Drive near Lynnhaven Inlet and in the Waterside area in Norfolk and around the waterfront in Hampton.
The cities are still Southern in approach and jackets may be required. Reservations are usually recommended for larger groups but a quick phone call for directions, reservations and inquiries on attire are always a great idea.
Worldly Appeal
American. Chinese. Mongolian. Irish. Hungarian. Fusion. You’ll find a world of flavors in Hampton Roads near and far. You won’t want to miss a single morsel of mouthwatering menu selections in the large restaurants or the small cafes in the region. Tea and Crumpets? Sandwiches and Soup? Steak and Salad? Burgers and Fries? From the basics to the refined, go get the taste you’ll remember from the smorgasbord of Hampton Roads cuisine.
